Baselworld 2017
The Ogden of Harrogate team were delighted to return recently to Baselworld to explore the magnificent display of timepieces that some of the world’s leading brands have to offer in 2017.
As expected, the staff were in awe of the extravagance that the brands had to offer. Despite downscaling and fewer brands exhibiting this year, the grandeur of the event certainly hadn’t been compromised.
Omega are truly celebrating in 2017 as they celebrate their 60th anniversary, releasing the ‘Omega 1957 Trilogy’, which is composed of limited edition pieces of their Seamaster 300, Speedmaster and Railmaster watches. This outstanding collection of classic watches proudly showcases the excellent craftmanship and tradition of Omega. The brand, however, has superbly conceived a Trilogy Box comprising all three of these watches of which just 557 sets are going to be created. These will be a real rarity to acquire.
Another brand celebrating a big anniversary this year is Longines which celebrates its 185th anniversary by releasing the eye-catching new Record Collection. What is particularly impressive is that every piece in the collection is awarded ‘chronometer’ status by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC), which adds more kudos to the brand. An elegant yet traditional collection which we think will do really well throughout 2017.
Zenith have decided to release a number of exciting new additions to its collection following Baselworld but the Defy El Primero 21 is a watch not to be missed! The renowned brand has released arguably its most illustrious chronograph yet. It marks the hundredths of a second making it faster times faster than its predecessor! Not only is this an outstanding piece of timekeeping, it’s truly pleasing aesthetically with the classic Zenith style.
Tag Heuer also released a number of excellent new pieces with many beautiful re-releases of some of the best-known watches but at a more affordable price yet with the same, priceless Tag Heuer style and expertise. Tag Heuer’s highly-anticipated Autavia has been re-released with public assistance on what the new design would look like. The finished result is a truly magnificent piece as expected from the brand.
A pleasant surprise to see at Baselworld was FOPE releasing a beautiful watch to add to its sumptuous jewellery collection. In line with the signature elegant FOPE style, LadyFOPE is a truly distinctive, diamond encrusted watch, which complements the range of Flex’it bracelets, necklaces and earrings. FOPE’s traditional Flex’it bracelet has been combined with a small yet unmistakeable Swiss-made, quartz watch case. FOPE could soon become a contender in the horology world and 2017 looks set to be a very exciting year for the brand.
This year’s releases at Baselworld are an exciting curtain-raiser for 2017 and we’re very excited to have many of these new watches on order for delivery very soon!
