Ogden Harrogate

 A new jewellery shop has opened in York, known as 'The Little Diamond Shop'.  The shop takes its name from a 19th Century jewellers - the original Little Diamond Shop opened in Harrogate in 1893 and was later renamed Ogden of Harrogate, which today remains one of Yorkshire’s leading jewellers.

The new venture in York is drawing on the experience learned over five generations in the trade. Ogden of Harrogate was founded in the late 19th Century by James Roberts Ogden, the adviser in the study of the gold work on Tutankhamun’s tomb. His passion for gemmology and horology has been passed down through generations of the Ogden family and under their supervision, a highly trained staff has served many Yorkshire families, statesmen and royalty. Today the business is one of the oldest and most prestigious family jewellers in the country and is run by Robert and Ben Ogden, the great, great grandsons of JR Ogden.

“We are really excited to be opening a sister shop in York,” says Ben Ogden. “York has such a rich cultural heritage and we feel that a jewellers that not only appeals to the cosmopolitan and stylish York shopper, but also offers traditional values such as knowledge, expertise and excellent service is a perfect fit.”

The premises at 15 Lendal has housed a jewellers since the 1950s but has undergone a thorough refit by shop fitters Miller Brown, who have over fifty years experience.

The shop stocks both traditional and contemporary jewellery, including cutting edge collections from designers such as Stephen Webster. Watch brands include Carl F. Bucherer, Rado, Technomarine, Dent and Longines and there is also a large collection of vintage watches and period and antique jewellery. Customers will also be able to take advantage of the repairs, remodelling and bespoke design services provided by Ogden of Harrogate.

The Little Diamond Shop will be managed by Richard Cummings, who has extensive experience of the jewellery industry, having worked for the last four years at Ogden of Harrogate and prior to that at HL Brown of Leeds and Preston & Duckworth of York. “This is a very exciting opportunity for Richard. He has great experience and his appointment enables us to ensure that the standards we value so highly at Ogdens are also upheld at The Little Diamond Shop,” says Robert Ogden.

The Little Diamond Shop opened at 15 Lendal, York on 20th November.
