Ogden Harrogate

Harrogate was visited by the remarkable founders of Bremont watches last week – brothers Giles and Nick English came in person to jewellers Ogden of Harrogate to explain the inspiration behind the watch brand they created in 2007 that today counts Tom Cruise, Ewan MacGregor, Bear Grylls and Charley Boorman as fans.

Theirs is a remarkable story – the catalyst for their aviation inspired watches being an aircrash that killed their father and left elder brother Giles with over 25 broken bones. This terrible experience encouraged the brothers to give up their city careers and pursue a career together.  Flying together a year after the life changing crash, they were forced to make an emergency landing in France. A French WWII pilot came to their rescue and they formed a friendship based on their mutual passions of aviation and horology.  He wore a watch passed down to him from his father and it was the name of this man  -  Antoine Bremont  - that the brothers chose for the watch brand they established.

According to M. Bremont, a much worn and loved wrist watch is party to more experiences that any other object a person owns and the brothers took this maxim to be central to their brand’s ethos -  that their watches will last more than a life time. Consequently, the watches undergo rigorous testing, both in the laboratory and in the field, hence explorers such as Ewan MacGregor and Bear Grylls putting them through their paces. In addition, the watches are made from stainless steel that is nine times stronger than that of an average watch case and the sapphire crystal is also much more durable than normal.

Fast forward a few years and the duo now have their watches in countries all over the world and many famous fans. The extensive testing process has meant that they have great appeal to anyone wanting a durable and elegant timepiece.
