Bespoke Design

Design

Our in-house design service enables our clients to receive a truly personal and bespoke service and offers the chance to commission a unique piece of jewellery, tailored to taste and budget. Rebecca Cox, the head designer, guides individuals through the design process, from an initial consultation to scale drawings of the chosen design. Our team of working jewellers then brings the bespoke design to life in our workshop.

Increasingly, clients are also seeking to re-model an existing piece of jewellery, whether an inherited heirloom, or simply a piece they are looking to update. Rebecca is able to create a choice of designs using the stones and precious metal from the original piece of jewellery and come up with something better suited to the client’s tastes. The example on the left is neither overly complex nor controversial, simply a perfectly executed brief:-

A solitaire diamond ring in yellow gold with split shoulders is given a more contemporary look in white gold with baguette diamond-set shoulders.

Designer - Rebecca Cox

Rebecca is the first contact for a customer wishing to create a new piece or fashion a new look out of an old item of jewellery. Hugely talented, with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art, and taking the coveted FGA qualification, Rebecca guides the customer through the whole process, from initial designs to the finished piece.

‘My jewellery career began at Prestons, Theo Fennell and George Lindleys after studying a combined Art and Sociology degree at the University of Canterbury, Kent. I am currently taking the Federate of the Gemmological Association exams. I have designed several ranges for Ogdens, one of which, Lotus, is based on ancient Egyptian imagery (our founder was a famous Egyptologist).

‘Arguably it is harder to develop a career in the creative industries, and this might put some people off working in jewellery design. There are no shortcuts – you really need to gain practical experience. However, although there are far more men than women in the business, the number of female jewellery designers is growing, and more and more are now winning the prestigious awards in the industry. It doesn’t happen overnight, although motivation and determination to succeed means your ultimate goals can be achieved.’
